TEMPORO-MANDIBULAR JOINT (TMJ) – JAW CLENCHING. Dear Karen, This is just a quick note to say thank you for teaching the TMJ RESET technique. I have used it each morning for the last week and have found it to be invaluable in rebalancing my body.
Having endured back problems most of my life, this simple tool has empowered me to rebalance my muscles & relieve great stress & fatigue from both the jaw and other parts of my back. I feel stronger in my legs & more active as a result of using the technique. I have also noticed I am sleeping more deeply & feeling more relaxed & refreshed when I awake. My jaw clenching during the night has almost disappeared. This is a great technique & I would recommend it to anyone. Colleen Delzoppo April 2004
TEMPORO-MANDIBULAR JOINT (TMJ). I am a Registered Dental Hygienist with over 20 years experience, and in 1999 Philip trained me to be a RESET Instructor. I taught RESET to our 2 office staffs, including the DDS's, the next year. The Dentist will ask for my assistance either during treatment, or after treatment is complete, as he determines the need. I see Clients for RESET sessions at my private office, but this article references the benefits of even short, partial sessions of RESET as spontaneously needed, during an appointment.
In our family oriented, general dental office, I often have the opportunity to use at least parts of RESET (when lacking time to do full sessions), to bring relief to clients. Often people who receive dental treatment experience discomfort holding their mouths open for long, and sometimes even short, periods of time. Other areas that have responded to this approach include post operative discomfort from extensive dental reconstruction - multiple crowns and/or bridges, surgeries, periodontal therapies, orthodontic adjustment soreness, anxiety, head and neck pain. Relief generally occurs, in various degrees, within 5-10 minutes and for most clients lasts for a significant amount of time.
The client is simply told that someone (by name) is coming who can help relieve the stress in their jaw. Minimal explanations are used. In this setting, the client is already reclining and will usually keep their eyes closed. I begin with water, if possible, sometimes the spasms have closed the jaw. Yes, the protocol starts with water and energizing kidneys but this is usually an acute circumstance and depending on the severity of the problem, I do as much of the protocol as possible to speed relief. Speaking with a slow, low, and soft voice, I start softening the neck muscles for a minute, which allows a quick assessment and initial contact to build rapport before touching a painful zone.
Next, I very gently hold (no pressure) and energize, particularly positions #1 and 2, for several minutes each, which seems to offer the fastest relief when time is minimal. I concentrate on those positions, mainly #1, until the spasms and/or pain releases, then assess the other positions. If possible, I spend at least a minute on each of the other positions to support the beneficial changes. My experiences suggest that, even stopping after these 2 positions, has been effective in reducing spasms and pain sufficiently to either continue treatment or reappoint for another time. I do strongly encourage them to drink several glasses of water afterwards and energize their kidneys.
Before they leave, if requested, the basic concept and positions are reviewed for the client and/or caregiver, allowing them to self treat at home should they choose to do so. Unfortunately, most of them appreciate the immediate relief but; when asked at later times if they used it at home, they say no. They forgot!
The first client, who received this treatment for post operative pain and TMJ spasms, told me on her return 2 weeks later: "You didn't seem to be doing anything. I thought it was a bunch of hooey and couldn't believe it would help, but was I surprised - it really Did! I stopped hurting and my recovery was much faster! I want you to work on my daughter."
What a pleasure to have reassurance that others can become believers.
While we have not fully implemented the techniques as standard practice, we strive to offer this care whenever we can, especially at the end of surgeries and long appointments of any kind. Minimally, I direct energy with every instrument I handle to clean the teeth, for periodontal therapies, and during anaesthetic delivery. I think this may alleviate the stress and facilitate the body assimilating and eliminating the chemistry we introduce. The simple holding of the cheeks with our calm interior helps settle restless, nervous clients and emphasizes we really want to care for them as individuals.
Dental assistants, who have a lot of chair side time with clients, have many opportunities to share this technique. Training interested dental staff with RESET is a valuable investment for any dental office. This is a simple, gentle, non-invasive, non-chemical approach to facilitate your client's improved health, physical and emotional well-being in the dental setting. Do you think that might stimulate referrals and client retention? You bet!
Our local Orthodontist allowed me to teach him and his staff RESET. Clients would appreciate the relief of jaw stress due to post adjustment discomfort. However, they have not utilized RESET as much as we have in our office. I suspect a lack of confidence and positive experiences may be the stumbling block.
I urge any Dentist and/or staff member learn RESET and be curious to find its usefulness. Generally speaking, I've noted the clients are more at ease in the chair and according to the reports from our clients, the reparative work our client's body needs to accomplish after dental treatments proceeds faster and more comfortably. A 10 minute investment of time to reduce pain and stress sounds like a winner to me!

TEMPORO-MANDIBULAR JOINT (TMJ). RESET came into my life at a time when I was undergoing extensive dental TMJ treatment. RESET had dramatic and immediate balancing effects on my whole system that had been thrown into disorganization through TMJ misalignment. I had systemic effects including pelvic misalignment and kidney distress, including fluid retention as well as digestive discomfort and disorientation. All were helped dramatically from the RESET protocol which I learned to do on myself whenever I needed it - so empowering! The brain integration and focus improvements were worth it in themselves!
At the age of 13 I had simple orthodontics for 18 months (no extractions). It left me with aesthetically beautiful, but functionally useless teeth(!), however this was not something I would realise until 5 years later, when a routine filling left me in excruciating pain. Apparently the dental anaesthetic had triggered muscles which were chronically stressed. I tried chiropractic and other bodywork but as soon as I ate, the pain (rolling around on the floor in agony pain) returned. I was advised to have my wisdom teeth extracted but knowing about acupuncture meridians and teeth, this was something I resisted. However the pain ended up being so intense that I went in to have them removed. Fortunately the dentist who was going to perform the extractions, said the cause was not my wisdom teeth but my occlusion or "bad bite"- he ground my teeth to a better occlusion and I was out of acute pain - and I kept my wisdom teeth!
I then travelled to the USA to do my natural therapies training. I participated in a "TMJ dysfunction assessment and treatment" program and realised that my situation was far from ideal.
I had extensive intra-oral muscle release work done and at the conclusion of my training I had assessments and treatment with dental and TMJ specialists in San Francisco, New Orleans and upon my return to Melbourne, here as well. And I was still in pain. I then heard about DOFOS - disturbance of functional occlusion treatment - which at the time was a radical approach - but parts of it are now being accepted and adopted by other TMJ focused dentists. It was an intense treatment and during its implementation I was having kinesiology treatments including Neural Organization Technique after every dental adjustment to keep myself on track as my system was extremely sensitive to any of the dental changes. This was often twice a week or more and extremely helpful - though the whole thing was very costly.
Doing RESET helped me to achieve this balanced state on my own. I still practise the technique after any dental work or extensive bodywork and find it extremely balancing and I get a definite sensation of improvement in structural stability, balance and co-ordination. Sometimes I add simple brain integration techniques such as cross crawls or eye moves afterwards and find they are so much more easily accepted and held by my system.
All this was achieved with the original RESET technique. Today, I heard about the updated RESET technique and cannot wait to try it - if the results I achieved with the basic technique are anything to go by, the exponential improvements with the few added applications should be dramatic! TEMPORO-MANDIBULAR JOINT (TMJ). In 1982 I was involved in a bicycle accident. I landed on my mandible and fractured my condyle. I had seven hours of surgery and the condyle was not replaced so I had a gross misalignment. My life was devastated. I was dyslexic and my body would weaken when I attempted vigorous exercise. I had wires in my jaw, scarring in the joint, very little opening and was very vulnerable to loud noises, anger, my own and others, and this could trigger extremely painful headaches and spasm. Much of my life was devoted to minimizing the stress and I pursued many things to help me keep the jaw as relaxed as possible. I required frequent chiropractic appointments. I had the T.M.J. corrections in May at a Health Festival. I felt a dramatic difference immediately. My whole face felt softer and even though the situations in my life are as noisy and stressful as usual, my jaw does not react in any way. I feel that I have at last had a major recovery of a long chronic traumatic problem which dominated my life for 11 years. Barbara Smith, Reiki Master, R.N. July 1995. Still good July 1996.
TEMPORO-MANDIBULAR JOINT (TMJ). I fell off a horse and was kicked in the face, resulting in my bottom jaw bone being broken in 3 places. 1 year later, after 2 operations and 3 metal plates, I still had great, deep pain in my upper back and jaw joints. After 2 sessions with Philip, 2 days apart, pain has been relieved in both places. A May 1995.
TEMPORO-MANDIBULAR JOINT (TMJ). For the last 5 years I have had one problem after another, my foot seizing up, knee and hip problems and my neck beginning to give way. I have been dancing for 20 years and thought that I must have just overworked my body. I had forgotten a jaw accident which happened just before my body started collapsing. With Kinergy Philip was able to realign my jaw - and overnight my problems have started to disappear. I am now able to use my left toe which has been unmovable after 4 years and my back and neck pain has disappeared. Nicole Malleo Dec. 1994.
TEMPORO-MANDIBULAR JOINT (TMJ). Over 5 years ago I went for the first time to a jaw surgeon. My jaw was hurting all the time and clicking on both sides. There were a lot of things I wasn't allowed to do and I had to wear a plastic plate in my mouth to keep the jaws together. If it didn't improve in 3-5 years they were going to put the upper and lower jaw together with metal, so I couldn't move at all. I had 2 sessions with Philip Rafferty. After the first the results were amazing. After the second the pain was and still is gone! Thanks Phil. Kyra Nov. 1994. Still good 1996.
TEMPORO-MANDIBULAR JOINT (TMJ). For several months I had been using cranial-sacral and visceral work on myself extensively. I had reached a plateau and needed something else to get me through. I took RESET from Ron and it became a milestone for me. With RESET I have moved mountains of TMJ and tinnitus problems. They are clearing up quite nicely. Teresa Ellis March 99.
TEMPORO-MANDIBULAR JOINT (TMJ). Two bad bicycle accidents left my body extremely tense and stressed. One of the worst areas was my jaw, which had been knocked out of alignment due to a neck brace and arm sling. My physiotherapist couldn't help my jaw because the tension in my neck and shoulders was so high that the pain returned to the jaw as quickly as it could be removed. My jaw could barely open and looked swollen on one side. After one simple session (Kinergetics), my mouth was freed. The abrupt pain produced by certain movements disappeared as if it had never been there. Yawning no longer popped and cracked or caused discomfort. The uneven swelling disappeared and I have no reminders of the pain in the area at all. I've been to many healers but this has been the best value.

TEMPORO-MANDIBULAR JOINT (TMJ). I am 23 years of age. In 1992 I was experiencing bad facial pain which I thought was an ear problem. After excluding that it was my ears, I was told that it was my wisdom teeth which were impacted and causing all the pain. I went into hospital and had them removed. When I came out of hospital I could not open my jaw at all. I was told by my dentist I had a condition called T.M.J. I saw three specialists, took tablets, had physiotherapy, but when it did nothing for me I was told that it was due to stress and nothing could be done other than to go and see a psychiatrist to try and release some stress. I decided that I would learn to live with this constant facial/neck pain. Two years later I decided I couldn't bear the pain any longer. I went to an alternative medicine festival where I met Philip Rafferty. I had one session with him which lasted around 20 minutes and he totally cured all my T.M.J. problems. I can open my mouth fully now without any pain or discomfort, something I haven't been able to do for two whole years. In my eyes it's a miracle come true. Thank you so much, I feel I have a new lease on life. Prue Wanders Aug. 1994. Still good Nov. 1996.
TEMPORO-MANDIBULAR JOINT (TMJ). For many years I have had problems with my jaw (T.M.J.) constantly clicking, in pain and with restricted movement. I had a very powerful healing in Melbourne with Philip for about 2 minutes. A three day healing and releasing of emotions followed. My jaw has been the best it has been for years and has held and maintained its balance. Many thanks. Jen Luddington. A woman in her fifties had arthritis in her right hip. After learning RESET she has had no pain and is now doing RESET on herself weekly. N O'Neill 1998.
TEMPORO-MANDIBULAR JOINT (TMJ). Dear Joan, I write to say a very special thank you for my healing. For years my jaw, ears and tendons, ligaments in that area have given me much pain. Six years ago a dentist confirmed by X-Ray that I had probably fractured my jaw at some stage resulting from a fall. The ligaments and tendons he said were now like elastic bands having been stretched too far. He proceeded to work on my jaw etc. for three years after which I was in a bigger mess, more pain and my bite was so far out that eating toast, crusty bread etc. was impossible. When challenged he admitted that I should have had an operation in the beginning but he wanted to try the latest techniques! I then didn't see a dentist for two years. I stopped wearing all braces and splints. In June this year I went to another dentist who confirmed that things were so bad they were best left or he could refer me to our local hospital for an operation which would not necessarily work! The following day (after Kinergetics) my face was swollen but no obvious bruising on the outside although my mother commented that I looked as though I had a black eye (which wasn't black) and my face was very puffy. It looked as though I'd had an op! The following day I was in no pain. My jaw felt so different. I had to get used to my 'bite' being accurate. By the end of the week the swelling was gone, my ears didn't hurt (heaven), and I was eating toast and feeling fabulous. Thank you for Kinergetics. It's made my life so different. To kiss my husband without pain is fun and I know it's caused us many giggles since. Cassie 1996.
TEMPORO-MANDIBULAR JOINT (TMJ). Client had broken jaw with titanium plate inserted, pain level was 5. Client had difficulty in movement of jaw. After RESET jaw was looser and client felt he could talk more easily and had better energy. SM May 99.
TEMPORO-MANDIBULAR JOINT (TMJ). Client had pain in teeth and numbness in left jaw (pain level 8/9, numbness level 7). After RESET pain level was 0, numbness went down to 4. Approximately one hour after session, client lost tooth from left side where greatest pain was. SM April 98.
TEMPORO-MANDIBULAR JOINT (TMJ). I have several joint projects I'm working on (tennis elbow, knees, wrists, fingers and TMJ) thanks to working around cyanide and ammonia fumes at my job. I see a chiropractor at least once a month and sometimes once a week since I'm too stubborn to drop my judo lessons. I find that when the chiropractic adjustments on my cervical spine won't hold more than a day or two, that it's related to my TMJ being out of whack. Doing RESET before and shortly after seeing my chiropractor helps the adjustments hold a lot longer. Doing RESET also helps when my neck gets to bothering and I'm not able to see my chiropractor because of my work schedule. John Briggs Dec 99.
TEMPORO-MANDIBULAR JOINT (TMJ). In October I broke off the whole side of the biggest molar in my upper teeth. The nerve was immediately exposed. This was a Saturday afternoon. No dentists open in my area. I applied RESET to my jaw and subsequently suffered no pain or sensitivity. Upon my visit to the dentist the following Monday my dentist was amazed and confused as to why I suffered no pain. He brought his colleagues into the room to examine my damaged tooth. I had aplied RESET again this morning in anticipation of dental work. The diagnosis was a triple root canal, ASAP. Throughout the course of my treatment I continued to apply RESET and it helped me to release the toxins from the anaesthetics and removal of old fillings. S Jepson Dec 99.
TEMPORO-MANDIBULAR JOINT (TMJ). I used RESET on a 23 year old client. Her jaw was completely out, her TMJ's were clicking. She had been taking panadol painkillers regularly. She has been amazed with the results of RESET and has had no pain since then. I have also used RESET with 10 other people successfully. 5 of these are teenagers with learning difficulties. It has made a huge difference to neck and back problems and helped with concentration. J Michael Feb 00.
TEMPORO-MANDIBULAR JOINT (TMJ). Kylie has had major jaw problems for many years. The day Kylie asked for my help the pain had become so severe that she was incapable of work, experiencing headaches, severe pain in her jaw and neck and shoulder stiffness with pain radiating down into her back affecting her gait. After a RESET treatment Kylie said she felt deeply relaxed, the pain had eased dramatically and she could now freely move her jaw. Neck, shoulders and back were pain free and relaxed and mobile. Her whole posture had altered bringing her body back into balance. S Lee Dec 99.
TEMPORO-MANDIBULAR JOINT – BRACES. A boy of 9 years came to see me with strong pain after an adjustment of his braces. After RESET the pain was gone immediately.
Dirk Kook (Kinergetics Consultant, RESET Instructor), Singapore May 2002.
TEMPORO-MANDIBULAR JOINT - CLICKING JAW. I worked on a client, who came to me with a clicking jaw. Three hours later he left with his jaw moving smoothly, silently, and comfortably.
My own testimonial also involves my TMJ. I spent 5 years with dentists and orthodontists correcting my TMJ only to have it go out again when someone hit me in the head right at the jaw joint. Along with the misalignment came a short term memory loss that lasted three years until the TMJ part of Kinergetics was done on me. Instantly, my short term memory returned. I now practice Kinergetics to help effect major life changes in others as it was gifted to me. AB Virginia, USA
TEMPORO-MANDIBULAR JOINT (TMJ) – Bruxism / Clenching / Grinding Teeth
TEMPORO-MANDIBULAR JOINT (TMJ) – BRUXISM. When Marian did RESET on me she said she had never seen such tight jaw muscles. I had been through a mouth guard and braces deal that lasted 5 years and still did not correct the TMJ problem! I was in danger of losing my teeth because of severe gum recession. After the RESET session my jaw muscles relaxed to the point that I no longer clench. And I no longer gnash my teeth - at least not in my awareness. Ali B Nov. 1999.
TEMPORO-MANDIBULAR JOINT (TMJ) – BRUXISM. AS has had a clicking jaw for many years. She also used to grind her teeth. Following a RESET treatment her jaw ceased clicking. HR Feb. 2000.
TEMPORO-MANDIBULAR JOINT (TMJ) – BRUXISM. I had for many years suffered with pain in the lower back, sometimes missing work. I would also grind my teeth, making my jaw sore. After learning to do RESET it has fixed these problems. As I am able to do this for myself it helps me with other problems that come up from time to time. I am most grateful to Peter Robertson for setting me on the right path. WD April 2000.
TEMPORO-MANDIBULAR JOINT (TMJ) – BRUXISM. Client has trouble with TMJ and clenches teeth constantly. After one session of RESET the client felt her jaws release and her teeth were now touching (top and bottom) which she has not been able to do for years. I had a tightening of the left side of my jaw, every time I felt strained I tended to clamp hard on my jaw. After RESET my jaws were loose but I acquired a headache. It lasted for one full day and night, and on the second day my head was clear with my jaws a lot looser. AMM.
